The first study day in the cycle devoted to innovation in the media was held on May 7 at MSHS Sud-Est, bringing together researchers from a number of disciplines to discuss the challenges of responsibility in the digital age and artificial intelligence.

The first study day in a cycle of multidisciplinary seminars dedicated to innovation in the media sector was held on May 7 at MSHS Sud-Est. Organized with the support of the École Universitaire de Recherche Économie et Management and the École Universitaire de Recherche Arts et Humanités, the event brought together lecturers and researchers from a variety of disciplines.event brought together professors and researchers in economics, management sciences, information and communication sciences, as well as law, around a common question: how can we rethink responsibility in a context of digital transformation and the growing integration of artificial intelligence in the media?

After opening remarks by Maxime Menuet (Deputy Director of Research at EUR Économie et Management, Professor of Economics) and Jean-François Trubert (Head of Cultural and Creative Industries, University Professor of Musicology), the discussions were structured around three key points:
  • Initial discussions on the book by Nathalie Sonnac (Le nouveau monde des médias) presented by Caroline Lequesne, HDR Lecturer in Public Law (GREDEG, Faculty of Law and Political Science).
  • A session on the new digital ecosystem and the redistribution of responsibilities:
"Economic, editorial and opinion concentration: reconfigurations of media and information in the digital age", Inna Lyubareva (University Professor of Digital Economics, HDR, LEGO, IMT-Atlantique) - Discussed by : Frédéric Marty (Chargé de recherche HDR CNRS, GREDEG, Université Côte d'Azur)
"La responsabilité des médias à l'heure de l'AI : point de vue du droit", Julie Charpenet (Maîtresse de conférences en droit privé, GREDEG, Université Côte d'Azur) - Discussed by: Faïza Naït-Bouda (Lecturer in SIC, Sic.Lab Méditerranée, EUR Arts et Humanités)
  • A second session on editorial logics and democratic issues:
"AI générative, entre facteur de division et source d'unité pour les médias face aux Big Tech", Franck Rebillard (Professor in SIC, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, IRMÉCCEN) - Discussant: Jean-Sébastien Vayre (Senior Lecturer in Sociology, GREDEG, EUR ELMI - EUR Société & Environnement)
"Legitimizing the innovation process by updating ethical discourse in journalism. L'exemple des chartes sur l'usage de l'AI générative dans les médias", Vincent Berthier (Doctoral student in SIC, Sic.Lab Méditerranée, EUR Arts et Humanités) - Discussed by : Julie Charpenet
"Du droit d'utiliser l'AI générative au devoir de la comprendre", Alexandre Joux (Professeur des Universités en SIC, Université Aix-Marseille, IMSIC) - Discussed by: Lise Arena (University Professor in Management Sciences, GREDEG, EUR Économie et Management)

Our warmest thanks to all the speakers for the quality and richness of their discussions.
Many thanks also to the organizing committee - Lise Arena (EUR Économie et Management / GREDEG), Frédéric Marty (GREDEG) and Faïza Naït-Bouda (EUR Arts et Humanités / SIC.Lab Méditerranée) - for their commitment in coordinating this day, which marks a first step in the development of a larger interdisciplinary project.
The colloquium was made possible thanks to the support of EUR Économie et Management, committed to the promotion of scientific work, and to the invaluable support of all the event's institutional partners.
